Experience the Nativity Story Like Never Before: WhyKnot Carriages and Artist Kaylie Polk Bring a Unique Holiday Offering to Mustard Seed Hill

This Christmas season, a new feature is lighting up Millersburg’s historic streets during the annual Christmas at Mustard Seed Hill celebration. Guests can now reserve Nativity Carriage Rides, a breathtaking experience that combines the charm of horse-drawn carriages by WhyKnot Carriages with stunning, custom-painted scenes of the Nativity story by Kaylie Polk, the artist behind Designs of a Daughter.

This unique addition, born from the creative vision of Victoria Benson at Mustard Seed Hill, showcases the talents of passionate community-driven entrepreneurs and artists. It’s an immersive holiday experience designed to inspire and uplift all who participate.

A Moving Work of Art

Kaylie Polk, a Georgetown-based artist and live wedding painter, poured her heart and faith into the six towering, stained-glass-inspired panels that tell the story of Christ’s birth. At eight feet tall, each painting depicts a key moment in the Nativity story—from the angel Gabriel’s announcement to Mary, to the shepherds in the fields, to the Holy Family gathered in the stable.

“As a believer, I pray over each piece,” Kaylie shares. “I want these paintings to minister to people as they see them on their carriage ride. My hope is that this experience will take the Nativity story, something so familiar, and breathe new life into it, so it sits in people’s hearts in a fresh way.”

For Kaylie, this project was deeply personal. While pregnant with her third child, she initially hesitated to take on such an ambitious endeavor. But just as she was considering the project, her family moved into their new home—a farmhouse with a perfect studio space for her to create. “It felt like God was inviting me to do something different,” she says. “The process has been so sweet, especially as I’ve just welcomed my own son.”

A Community-Driven Vision

The Nativity Carriage Rides are the culmination of collaboration and vision from Millersburg’s vibrant community. Victoria Benson, President of Mustard Seed Hill, envisioned a way to highlight local talent while deepening the holiday experience.

“Christmas at Mustard Seed Hill is all about bringing people together to celebrate community, tradition, and creativity,” Victoria says. “By featuring artists like Kaylie and local businesses like WhyKnot Carriages, we’re creating something truly special that reflects the heart of Millersburg.”

Lisa Campbell of WhyKnot Carriages echoes this sentiment. “We’ve always loved the Christmas lights at Mustard Seed Hill, and being able to share this tradition with others is an honor,” Lisa shares. “Adding Kaylie’s beautiful Nativity paintings takes the experience to another level. It’s like stepping into a storybook.”

The Experience

Guests will embark on a serene journey through Millersburg, stopping at various locations where the Nativity paintings are displayed. Each scene is paired with a recorded narration of the story, creating an immersive and reflective experience.

Riders will enjoy the warmth of blankets, the quiet beauty of Millersburg’s holiday lights, and the gentle rhythm of horse-drawn carriages as they travel between the panels. The carriages, provided by WhyKnot Carriages, include options for small groups or families and are driven by Lisa’s family team, including her beloved Friesian horses, Bill and Bob.

“The rides are for all ages,” Lisa says. “It’s so quiet and peaceful, and we hope people take this time to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas.”

A Holiday Tradition in the Making

The Nativity Carriage Rides are a testament to the magic that happens when a community comes together with a shared purpose. For Kaylie, Lisa, and Victoria, it’s not just about creating a memorable experience—it’s about sharing the joy, beauty, and deeper meaning of the season.

“I pray that each person who sees these paintings and takes this ride feels spiritually filled,” Kaylie says. “I hope they walk away with a fresh sense of awe for the story of Jesus and the wonder of Christmas.”
