The Women’s Business Center of Kentucky is proud to welcome Martina Barksdale as a new WBC Business Coach!

In her role, Martina will provide one-on-one coaching, training, and guidance to women entrepreneurs at various stages of their business journey. Her work will support clients as they navigate challenges, strengthen their businesses, and build toward long-term success.

Martina brings a dynamic blend of communications, storytelling, entrepreneurship, and community engagement to the Women’s Business Center of Kentucky. Her professional background spans media, public relations, production, marketing, and event leadership, giving her a broad and practical perspective on what it takes to build visibility, connect with audiences, and move ideas forward. She currently serves as Director of Communications for VisitLEX and is the co-founder of SoulFeast Week, a celebration of Black culinary culture that highlights Black restaurants, farmers, and chefs in Central Kentucky.

Her career has included developing and executing public relations strategies, managing media relationships, creating press and digital content, producing shows and branded segments, building client campaigns, and leading projects from concept through execution. She has worked across television, live hosting, production, business storytelling, and content development, with experience that ranges from WKYT and Gray Television to event hosting and entrepreneurial media ventures of her own.

Martina has real-world understanding of entrepreneurship.

She knows that small business growth is rarely linear, and that resilience, adaptability, and continuous learning are essential to building something sustainable. Her own entrepreneurial path, combined with her work across many different projects and industries, gives her a practical understanding of both the opportunities and the obstacles business owners face.

Martina is especially passionate about working with courageous people who believe in themselves enough to start and grow a business. She is driven by the opportunity to champion small business owners, help them overcome hurdles, and celebrate each win along the way. For her, there is deep purpose in empowering others and helping build community from the ground up.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Martina is a proud twin from a large, close-knit family, she is looking forward to her family’s 70th annual reunion on the family farm this Labor Day. Outside of work, she may be emceeing for Lexington Sporting Club, traveling to a new destination, exploring new restaurants, or enjoying a reality TV marathon.

We welcome Martina to the Community Ventures and WBC family, and we are excited for the knowledge, energy, and encouragement she will bring to entrepreneurs across Kentucky.
