Dr. Loyde Jolly Builds a New Veterinary Practice in Nicholasville

After 38 years in veterinary medicine, Dr. Loyde Jolly wanted to practice independently again.

Community Ventures client spotlight: The road back to independent practice, featuring Dr. Loyde Jolly, Dr. Zachary Jolly and Bellaire Animal Medical Center.

He had owned and operated Woodford Animal Hospital beginning in 1991, then continued working as an employee after selling the practice to a national veterinary company. When he left that position in November 2023, a noncompete agreement prevented him from opening a clinic within 12 miles of his former employer.

Dr. Jolly and his family found a path forward in Nicholasville.

They purchased land at 225 Bellaire Drive and began developing Bellaire Animal Medical Center, a new full-service veterinary clinic owned by Dr. Jolly and his wife, Terri. Their son, Dr. Zachary Jolly, joined his father in the practice after graduating from veterinary school in 2023.

Building a Clinic From the Ground Up

The Jolly family planned the facility around the work of caring for animals. The 6,635-square-foot building includes six exam rooms, a surgery room, x-ray and dental facilities, two containment rooms with separate HVAC systems, a laboratory, offices and space for the clinic’s staff.

Bellaire Animal Medical Center opened in February 2025. Construction was completed the following month.

Opening the clinic required a substantial investment in land, construction and specialized equipment. The Jolly family used personal funds to purchase the property and cover part of the equipment and landscaping costs. Short-term bridge financing allowed construction to move ahead, but the new practice still needed permanent financing with a longer repayment period.

Financing the Next Stage

Community Ventures worked with the Jolly family through the SBA 504 loan program to help finance the real estate, completed construction and equipment. The long-term financing replaced eligible short-term construction debt and gave the new practice a structure better matched to the useful life of its building and equipment. Dr. Jolly brought decades of veterinary and business experience to the project. He and Dr. Zachary Jolly also brought established client relationships from their work in the area. Those strengths, along with the family’s own financial investment, formed the foundation for the new clinic.

Bellaire Animal Medical Center provides examinations, vaccinations, laboratory testing, dental care, surgery, anesthesia, hospitalization, imaging, medicine and other veterinary services. The clinic expects to create 13 jobs during its first two years.

The Jolly family chose to invest in a new practice, build a facility suited to its work and continue serving central Kentucky on independent terms. Community Ventures is grateful to have helped put the long-term financing in place.
