State, Local, Non-profit Community Partners Hold Ribbon Cutting Commemorating Completion of New Home for Fulton Resident

Constructing the Second New Residence in Fulton in a Decade

FULTON, KY. (May 13, 2024) – Community Ventures (CV), in partnership with the City of Fulton, the City of South Fulton, Fulton County, Fulton County Detention Center, and the Fulton-Hickman Counties Economic Development Partnership, celebrated the completion of the second CV-financed and developed home built in Fulton in a ribbon cutting ceremony on May 13, just four and half months after CV broke ground on the project.

 

“Healthy communities need quality workforce housing that’s affordable and we’re thankful for the opportunity to partner with Fulton residents, like Ms. Felicity, to help them achieve their dreams of homeownership,” said Brenda Weaver, Community Venture’s President of Lending and Western Kentucky Disaster Recovery. “We’re committed to working alongside local, county, and state partners to strengthen the community of Fulton and look forward to building many more homes together.”

 

The home is a dream come true for first-time homeowner and long-time Fulton resident, Felicity Smith, and is the second residence built by CV in the last 8 months.

 

“As a single parent, I never thought my dream of becoming a homeowner would come true,” said Felicity Smith. “The opportunity to become a homeowner is such a blessing, and I’m so excited for my son to see that dreams really can and do come true. I couldn’t have asked for better people at Community Ventures to work with, and I’d like to thank everyone who worked on my house. Because of your hard work, my son and I will have a house we can enjoy for years.”

 

Non-profit CV is committed to helping Kentuckians achieve their dreams and has developed six home designs that residents can choose from to build – The Marion, The Anderson, The Pendleton, The Georgetown, The Garrad, and The Donna. The designs vary in style and square footage.

 

With the help of Fulton partners and funders like NeighborWorks America, Truist Bank, the Kentucky Housing Corporation (KHC), and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), CV hopes to make homeownership a reality for many more residents.

 

Since the tornadoes and storms that devastated Western Kentucky in December 2021, Fulton County has seen the housing market tighten. According to a housing assessment study conducted by the University of Kentucky, Fulton County ranks 13th among counties in Kentucky with the highest demand for housing, tying with Fayette County.

 

As a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO), Community Ventures was able to partner with Kentucky Housing Corporation (KHC) for the funding of Ms. Felicity’s home.

“Kentucky faces a statewide housing shortage,” said Wendy Smith, KHC’s Deputy Executive Director of Housing Programs. “A recent analysis commission by KHC shows Fulton County has a high need for more for-sale and rental housing, so we are thrilled to see Community Ventures’ homebuilding underway in Fulton.”
